“I think I’ve been visiting dentists for
about 55 years. Finally, this afternoon
I really had fun! Last Thursday one of
my back teeth was a bit of a mess as a
consequence of having lost an old crown
about a week earlier. Today, Monday,
I have a new crown in place, and I’m
ready to go. The fun part was actually
watching the crown being shaped.
Of course, I couldn’t escape without
freezing. After that, the old crown,
which I’d managed to save was put in
place. A picture of the surface was
taken with the dentist’s dandy hand-held
camera. Following that, the surface of
the tooth was prepared by grinding.
Another picture of the new surface, and
the computer was ready to go to work. A
3D image of the new crown was generated
and adjusted by (Dr. Burry) as I
watched. Colours between old and new
teeth were matched. Then it was off to
the grinding machine. A cube of
porcelain was loaded and I watched as it
was ground to the requisite shape…The
new crown was glued, minor adjustments
and polishing done, and I was ready for
chewing – all within 80 minutes.”
